2018 has been a quiet year for the Italian large-scale solar industry. However, 2019 promises to be different. The Italian government is expected to release a new renewable energy decree that will further set up the base for an annual multi-GW market. With the first auctions planned for early 2019, the Italian PV sector is ready to retake its position as one of Europe’s sunniest and biggest solar markets.
The 1st edition of Solar Market Parity kicked off with a bang this past 5th of June with all the required ingredients: an excitement in the air about the prospects of subsidy-free solar, a balanced program, a diverse set of attendees and networking time.

As with any market parity (subsidy-free) project, many questions remain: Who is going to buy the energy, at what price and for how long? |Pietro Radoia is a senior solar analyst at Bloomberg New Energy Finance. He joined BNEF's solar team in early 2011, and covers European PV markets, secondary PV market activity, and PV Levelized Cost of Electricity analysis. Before joining Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Pietro completed an MSc in Environmental Technology at Imperial College, where he specialised in Environmental Economics & Policy.
